CHMM / CHMP Exam Preparation Course

While anyone who would like to increase their knowledge in hazardous materials management is welcome to attend, the course is primarily to prepare those who intend to take the CHMM or CHMP Exam. Your education and/or experience will determine your eligibility to sit for the exam.

Candidates need to be familiar with relevant laws and regulations, relevant scientific principles and their application, and best management practices. Many candidates attend overview courses or rely on self-study materials to prepare for taking the examination. IHMM does not require any specific type of exam preparation or training and the exams are not based on any single reference. Qualification requirements are identified at the IHMM website under Applicants.   For additional information and requirements, please consult the IHMM website.

Over 15,000 professionals have been certified by the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management. Certified Hazardous Materials Managers (CHMMs) and Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioners (CHMPs) work in environmental protection, public health, homeland security, transportation, safety, and related fields. Corporations, universities, and government agencies depend on the CHMM and CHMP certifications to identify individuals qualified to properly identify and handle hazardous and/or potentially hazardous materials.

The body of knowledge needed to successfully pass rigorous CHMM & CHMP examinations will be covered in this 3-day overview course. The first two days will emphasize CHMM / CHMP “Practitioner” topics and the third day will emphasize CHMM “Manager” topics. Applicants for the CHMM credential should attend all three days.  Each student will receive a Student Workbook (containing practice exam and study guide worksheets). Course instructors will lead students through each section of the student workbook. Course will cover laws & regulations, science & technology, management principals and practical applications pertaining to body of knowledge required to practice as a hazardous materials professional.
